The router will attach to the access point of your choice and then rebroadcast the signal as the SSID of your choosing. You do this by setting up a virtual wireless interface.
New in DD-WRT v24 is Repeater Bridge mode. This extends your primary LAN via secondary router (bridge router) and also allows wireless clients to connect to your secondary router. This extends the range of your wireless network while simultaneously allowing wired clients to connect to your secondary router.

The funny poles are actually DD-WRT routers and one is configured as the primary. If your modem has wireless and a switch you can just leave that primary router out, since it is just configured as a standard access point. The secondary is actually a DD-WRT router in repeater bridge mode. #2253 (Repeater mode broken in newer builds of K26 only I'm using dd-wrt.v24-16773_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega Eko on a asus rt-n16 and repeater and vssid works, this is the only build I have found to work. make sure you set the "Wireless Network Mode" to match that of what you are repeating, and if you are using MAC clone make sure to set the security mode of the vssid to match the repeated AP.
